ROCHAS OUT AS THE IMO STATE GOVERNOR???
In the year 2007, the People’s
Democratic Party (PDP) in River state won the gubernatorial election with
@Omehia as the party’s flag bearer or candidate. Later in 2008, Omehia left PDP
for APGA and the Supreme Court of Nigeria held that the mandate which brought
Omehia into office as Governor was that of PDP not APGA and as such PDP took
their mandate which brought @Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi into office as the Governor of River State.
That judgment was the first of its kind in the history of Nigerian Politics.
The governor of Imo state @Chief
Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha is about to be the ball for revenge for APGA.
Okorocha won the April 24th Governorship election in Imo State under
the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and after barely 2years
in Office He defected to All Progressive Congress (APC) which means that he has
left the party with the mandate that brought the victory in 2011. A repeat of
the 2008 drama in River State.
Yesterday, @APGA filed a law suit
against Rochas demanding that the office of the Governor of Imo State still
belongs to APGA till 2015. They prayed that the Federal High Court in Abuja
should empower @INEC to confirm the Deputy Governor or the Speaker of Imo state
House of Assembly as the Governor hence the two are still in APGA. Looking at
the political scenario in Nigeria, there is every tendency that the Federal
High Court will repeat the River State judgment in Imo state and it will even
be easier since @APC was not in existence during the 2011 election that brought
Rochas to Power. APGA’s suit is fully supported by the Constitution of Federal
Republic of Nigeria section 177 as amended in 2010.
Political analyst has blamed
Rochas for being so fast in his action stating that other Governors that
defected are all in their second tenure and has nothing much to lose as they
defected with the state support. Rochas will not be able to swallow his vomit
by trying to go back to APGA and APGA on their own will never accept him back
to the camp as they are about to select their Flag bearer for 2015 General
elections.
If justice is administered at the
Federal High Court, Rochas will certainly be removed as the Governor of Imo
state; meanwhile, his case with Ohakim will be heard on the 24th of
January 2014. Remember that he lacks the legal standing to face Ohakim at the
court on the above date since he has left the platform that brought him to
Power. Let us see what becomes of Imo state. Most students at Imo state
University are clamoring for his removal claiming that he promised them free
education without fulfilling it.
Does it mean that @Akande and @Tinubu has mislead Rochas to rub him of his future Presidential ambition? does what happened to @Ngige ring a political bell? Let us watch and see
